HEBRON, West Bank, June 5 - A seven month old Palestinian infant was killed and his parents were wounded on Friday after Israeli forces opened fire on their vehicle in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron, according to Palestinian health officials.

The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the infant as Sam Fahd Abu Haikal and said he died from gunshot wounds sustained during the incident. His mother and father were also injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The child's grandmother said the family was driving near Checkpoint 17 in Hebron when they noticed Israeli military vehicles and soldiers from a distance and stopped their car. She said gunfire was then directed at the vehicle.

"We thought they were warning shots at first," she said.

The Israeli military said it was examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Israeli media reported that senior military officials expressed regret over the death of the infant and that an investigation had been opened.

The shooting occurred amid ongoing Israeli military operations across the occupied West Bank, where violence has escalated in recent months.
