Contributor Guidelines
Standards and best practices for submitting high-quality editorial content to JNA Press.
Guidelines for Photographers
- Avoid duplicate frames
Please do not upload similar or repetitive shots from the same moment. Select your strongest frames only — quality over quantity. - Working with other agencies is fine — but be smart
You are free to work with other agencies, but avoid sending the exact same images. Use different frames to maintain exclusivity and increase sales potential. - Think like a buyer
Always ask yourself: Would a media outlet publish this?
We focus on strong, clear, and story-driven images. - Strong captions are essential
Captions must be accurate, clear, and neutral (who, what, where, when).
Incomplete or unclear captions reduce the chances of selling your images. - Speed matters
Timeliness is critical in news. Send your content as quickly as possible — without compromising accuracy. - Send complete coverage
Try to provide a full visual story (wide, medium, details), not just random single shots. - Help us sell your work
Our role is to distribute and sell your content — your role is to send strong, publishable material. - Avoid heavy editing
Keep colors natural and realistic. No excessive filters — maintain editorial standards. - Your archive has value
Recent archive images (last 1–2 months) are highly useful and can still generate sales. - Be selective
Do not upload everything you shoot. Choose only your best work — this increases your value and improves overall quality.
Editing Standards
- Keep it natural
All edits must reflect reality. Avoid dramatic changes in colors, contrast, or lighting. - No over-editing
Do not use heavy filters, HDR effects, or excessive sharpening. The image must remain clean and realistic. - Color accuracy is critical
Colors should match the real scene as closely as possible. Avoid unnatural tones or color casts. - Basic adjustments only
Allowed edits include:
– Exposure correction
– White balance adjustment
– Minor contrast and clarity
– Straightening (horizon)
– Standard cropping - No manipulation of content
Do NOT add, remove, move, or alter any element in the image.
No cloning, compositing, or AI-generated alterations. - Cropping rules
Crop only to improve composition — never crop in a way that changes the context or meaning of the image. - Maintain original aspect ratio when possible
Avoid extreme crops unless necessary for editorial clarity. - Noise & sharpness control
Reduce noise carefully. Avoid over-sharpening that creates halos or artifacts. - File quality matters
Submit high-resolution images with minimal compression.
Avoid exporting low-quality or heavily compressed files. - No watermarks or logos
Do not add any watermark, signature, or logo to the images. - Metadata must be clean
Ensure correct date, location, and author credit are included in the file metadata (IPTC).
Video Guidelines
- Duration
Each video should be no shorter than 1:30 min and no longer than 4:00 min. - Edited package required
Videos must be compiled and edited (using CapCut or any editing software).
Do not send raw, unedited clips. - Clear structure
Build a simple sequence:
– Opening shot (establishing)
– Main action
– Details / close-ups
– Closing shot - Keep it stable
Avoid shaky footage. Use steady hands or basic stabilization. - Natural audio
Keep original sound when possible. Avoid loud music or distracting effects. - No heavy effects
No filters, transitions, or visual effects that affect the editorial quality. - Clean framing
Make sure subjects are clear, in focus, and properly framed. - Relevance
Footage must clearly show the event/story — avoid random or unrelated clips. - Horizontal preferred
Shoot horizontal (landscape) unless there is a strong reason not to.
